Bacterial Meningitis

Meningitis is an infection of the persons spinal cord fluid and fluid around the brain. Bacterial meningitis can be quite severe and may result in brain damage, hearing loss or learning disability. It is rare, but usually serious and can be life-threating if not treated right away.

Symptoms

The symptoms of bacterial meningitis vary from person to person. The first symptoms can come on very fast or usually several days after the person has had a cold. Some common symptoms are

skin rashes
stiff neck
headache
fever
photophbia (eye sensitivity to light)

Yes, some forms of bacterial meningitis are contagious. You can get it through respiratory or throat secreations. Most common is when you breath the air where a person with meningitis has been.
